After hearing the rumors that the Nevada state legislature was considering a high capacity magazine ban as recommended by the Clark County Sheriff, I discovered from my friends at the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) that this is not up for consideration in this legislative session. Thank God I live in a state where even the legislators from the Democrat dominated Clark County don’t have the balls to push further gun control, at least for now.
Here's my analysis of the situation. I looked back at the 2013 legislative session, before I moved to Nevada, and things seemed to be different. Focusing on my newly elected assemblyman, Jason Frierson, who was Chairman of the Judiciary Committee at the time, I saw that he single-handedly killed the Campus Carry Bill (which would students with a valid CCW to carry on college property) as well other good gun rights bills, including those with strong public support, while trying to move forward gun control bills which had strong public opposition. I have to think that Assemblyman Frierson’s gun control stance may have had a lot to do with him losing reelection in 2014.
John Moore, the Republican who beat Assemblyman Frierson in 2014, seemed to spend the next two years derailing his chances for reelection. After winning his seat, he changed over to the Libertarian Party and then screwed them over by voting for a Nevada Stadium Subsidy, something the party opposed and even donated to his reelection campaign to stop. As a result of his political “stupidity”, Moore was shunned by both Libertarians and Republicans, losing to Frierson in 2016. Correction: Moore got stomped. He got 7 percent of the vote with Frierson gaining 56 percent. Let me emphasize that you have to be a total moron to only get 7 percent of the vote as an incumbent. Go figure!!
Anyway, I hope that Assemblyman Frierson and his newly elected cronies in the Democratic dominated Clark County learned their lesson that gun control is a losing issue in Nevada. I will continue to work with the local NRA-ILA to help watchdog our local politicians and make sure that we continue to protect the second amendment in the great state of Nevada, my new home. I encourage those of you who share my opinions on the issue of gun rights to join the NRA and get involved at the grassroots level with your local NRA-ILA office. Although we are winning at the national level, the gun grabbers are still seeking every opportunity to push their agenda at the state level.
